Introduction
This is by no means an exhaustive discussion or list, but is simply intended to provide some scriptural references that support Donald Trump as the best option between the options we have from a Christian perspective. Neither candidate resemble anything close to what we think a “Christian” should look like. However, the actions and public records of the candidates do provide some insight and direction as to who we should support from a Christian perspective.
In the parable of the two sons we read…
Matthew 21:28-31 “But what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’ The son answered, ‘No, I won’t go,’ but later he changed his mind and went anyway. Then the father told the other son, ‘You go,’ and he said, ‘Yes, sir, I will.’ But he didn’t go. “Which of the two obeyed his father?” They replied, “The first.” Then Jesus explained his meaning: “I tell you the truth, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do. For John the Baptist came and showed you the right way to live, but you didn’t believe him, while tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to believe him and repent of your sins.”
And in another verse we read…
Titus 1:16 “They profess that they know God, but by their works they deny him, being abominable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.”
Both of these passages and many others would suggest that what a person does, is way more important than what they say in regards to pleasing God. You may think that Trump is loud mothed, belligerent, boastful, and lacking in common decency. I’m not even going to try and argue that point. I would just simply say that what he has done as President, and intends to do based upon his policies, has been in favor of law and order, religious liberties, right to life, the traditional family, helping the poor and many other things that we should consider important as Christians. That being said, his opponent Joe Biden, and more importantly the radical democratic socialist party (which will be calling the shots if he is elected), has been in opposition to all those things and the Christian faith in general.
So here is the breakdown for each of those categories. If you would like to submit comments or additions I sincerely welcome your input. Just register on this site and post your comments here.
Voting for Law and Order
1 John 3:4 “Everyone who practices lawlessness practices sin and sin is lawlessness.”
1 Corinthians 14:40 “Let all things be done decently and in order.”
Romans 13:2 “So those who refuse to obey the laws of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow.”
Trump has openly condemned the terroristic acts of destruction and murder across the nation primarily occurring in Democratic run cities. Violent rioters have destroyed property and murdered innocent civilians and police officers during the riots. He has spoken and taken action against violent groups such as Antifa. He fully supports our police officers and men of service. He has also been clear that peaceful protesting is permitted.
Biden has the full support of Antifa and BLM (a demonic led social justice organization bent on tearing down the traditional family, and promoting homosexual and transgender rights and normalization). Biden did finally call out Antifa by name when asked specifically “do you condemn Antifa?” but included the phrase, “violence across the board.” However, the fact that https://www.antifa.com/ links directly to Joe Biden’s web site speaks volumes. Democratic governors have allowed, promoted, and submitted to violent protests, destruction of property, and murders of innocent people during the protests, while keeping churches and small businesses shuttered. They also want to defund police that protect innocent people. I can only imagine what it would be like if they had the support of the president.
Voting for Religious Liberty
Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more as you see the day approaching.”
Trump has stood by the church and in spite of intense opposition, declared the churches of America “essential” in the midst of the pandemic. He has continued to support churches in Democratic run states who are under persecution by state and local governments.
Democratic run states and cities have made it clear that church is not important, and should not be gathering together while air travel and major department stores are open. Many churches who have chosen to obey God and meet together are suffering fines, court appearances, and the possibility of arrest. I couldn’t find a single account of churches being fined in Republican controlled cities.
Voting for the right to life
Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you…”
Matthew 22:39 “… Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself”
Exodus 20:13 “You shall not murder”
Trump will try to stop late term abortions.
Biden fully supports late term abortions all the way up to birth.
Voting for the traditional family
Mark 10:6-9 “But at the beginning of creation God made them male and female. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. To they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate..”
Jude 1:7 “And don’t forget Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and serve as a warning of the eternal fire of God’s judgment.”
Trump opposes same sex marriage and has suggested he would appoint judges who would reverse the 2015 decision to make it legal in many states.
Biden is in favor of same sex marriage, and has the endorsement and support of the LGBTQ in this election. He also has the support of Black Lives Matter, an activist group committed to tearing down the institution of the traditional family.
Voting to help the poor
James 1:27 “Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”
Proverbs 22:9 “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.”
Ephesians 4:28 “Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.”
James 2:14-17 “What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
2 Thessalonians 3:10 “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat.”
Exodus 20:9 “Six days you shall labor, and do all your work.”
I included several verses here coming at this from a couple of different directions, because the issues are more complicated than they appear to be on the surface. The first thing that I would say is that helping the poor is the role and responsibility of the Church, not the government. There is a clear connection between the church ministering to the needs of the poor, and the declaration of the Gospel. The more the government gets involved, the less money is available for the Church to help them, and thereby reducing the opportunities to share the gospel along with that support.
Many people fail to realize that everything is tied to the economy. To quote another Bible verse.. “…money is the answer for all things” (Ecclesiastes 10:19). When the economy is strong, unemployment goes down and wages go up. This means more people have jobs that pay well and can afford the basic necessities of life. There is also a sense of accomplishment and pride that comes from individuals when they earn their own income. Other symptoms of this scenario are decreasing drug use, lower crime rates, domestic disputes, fewer suicides, and so on. For those who are willing and able to work, Trump has done more for those people, and to a greater degree than we have seen in decades.
For those who cannot work, the Church is indirectly empowered through increased wages and business philanthropy to do the work of the ministry by providing for the “widows and orphans”, or those who cannot provide for themselves.
I was somewhat baffled by the review of the ministry prospectus that I did about a year after I arrived at Real Life. We hadn’t come anywhere close to the people goals, and yet our financial goals were right on track up until the shutdowns began. I realized that this could only be explained by higher rates of giving from the families that were attending. While this could be explained by some change out in attendees, I know for me personally, I made more money. One of the big contributors to that was I was able to keep more of it. I’ve had lower tax bills the last 3 years than I’ve had for as long as I can remember.
Trump has built the strongest US economy that has ever existed, and he is bringing jobs back to the US from China and other countries by the hundreds of thousands. He has negotiated new trade deals with China that removed unfair tariffs on US products.
Biden would most likely increase regulations and taxes making it more expensive for businesses to operate in the US from large manufacturing down to the local mom and pop shop. He may give some of the initial tax money to the poor, but the overall income will decrease as jobs disappear, and tax revenue declines. Ultimately this will do more harm than good by deflating moral, trapping more and more people in a communistic minimum income society, and strip away the empowerment of the church to provide for those who truly need it (and preach the Gospel).
Voting for blessing to Israel
Genesis 12:1-3 “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
Psalms 122 “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they that love thee shall prosper. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will say now, peace be within thee. For the sake of the House of the Lord our God I will seek thy good.”
Trump is a strong supporter of Israel. He has officially declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel and ordered the relocation of the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Biden would likely continue Obama’s progress on pushing for a Palestinian statehood and opposing the Prime ministers policies. They essentially tried to privately manipulate Israel into giving up land that would make them vulnerable to their enemies.
Voting to Support Equal Rights
Galations 3:28 “There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.”
Trump has a long history of standing for equal rights for minorities. He verbally disavowed the David Duke and his white nationalist group. When he purchased the private Mar-a-lago club in Palm Beach in 1997 he opened up membership to African Americans and Jews. Eventually other clubs started to join the movement and he received praise from the Anti-Defamation League for his actions. His economic policies and school choice policies will help give all American citizens better options and access to jobs, prosperity, and security.
Biden and the Democratic party support Black Lives Matter and other organizations that create by nature inequalities among American citizens. Harris, who will most likely take over as president before the end of Biden’s first term, sent 127,000 blacks and Hispanics to prison while serving as the California attorney general some of which were wrongfully convicted.
